Raw material characterization
For the effective arrangement of the use of polymers, the knowledge of the characteristics of the raw material (granulates, powder) is necessary.
With these informations, conclusions on the process interpretation are possible at the processing. Moreover the characteristics of the finished parts and the requirements to the quality of the products are of crucial importance. For this reason the choice of a suitable material (polymer) is always closely connected with the design of the tool including the definition of the optimal conditions of the transforming process. Naturally, it happens also very often, that during the definition of suitable parameters the user has to accept a compromise.
Due to these facts it is necessary to offer the characteristic material data in order to describe the user the behavior of the polymers in accordance with the respective application.
The measuring and testing instruments presented and described in this chapter "raw material testing instruments" permit a nearly complete characterisation of the raw material.
For an effective and fast purchases check we recommend the following basic equipment:
- Moisture Meter (meaningful, if the granule material has to be dried before the processing)
- Melt-Flow Index Tester
- Density Tester
- Ash content Ovens (in order to determine the glass fiber content e. g. from PA)
